Summary:

The STAR counselor is responsible for the supervision and safety of STAR, the Days Off School Program,

Winter/Spring Break participants throughout the school year. The counselor works main tasks include monitoring, interacting, leading, and developing activities. While maintaining a safe and fun environment for kids to enjoy during their time out and away from school. They also provide aide to individual students and assist in all program aspects while providing quality customer service to families and guests of the Hoffman Estates Park District.

Days/Hours of Work:

Morning shift: 6:45 am – 8:30 am/9:00 am

AM shift hourly range starts at $15.50

Afternoon Shift: 2:45 pm-6:00 pm/2:15 pm - 6:00 pm/1:30 pm -6:00 pm.

PM shift hourly range starts at $15.00

Assigned work days and hours vary based on availability.

Experience and Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of 16 years of age (or 15 with a work permit)
  2. Experience in working with children ages K-6th grade
  3. Good skills in planning activities for children
  4. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with children, parents, and team members
  5. Ability to solve problems that may arise
  6. Must be dependable, reliable in attendance and punctuality
  7. Must be energetic and have a positive attitude
  8. Ability to enforce Park District rules and safety practices
  9. Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid is required
